Adding sparkle to the Lighthouse

Background stitching on needlepoint is my favorite kind of handwork. It’s mindless and rewarding seeing the mesh of the canvas being covered with stitches of wool. As I was working on the background of the Lighthouse, I realized that the clouds seemed one-dimensional.

Kreinik blending filament came to mind when I thought about how to add some pizazz. I used the blending filament only on the white clouds so that the sparkle wasn’t too prominent on the design. The picture here captures some of that bit of shine. Feel free to be creative when working from a kit. The designs are lovely when stitched according to the model, but sometimes you may want to change things a bit to suit your decor.
