It becomes a judgment call and some beginning stitchers don&#8217;t yet have confidence in their ability. Missy and I reached a compromise with her project. I have been stitching around the colored areas with the white background yarn so that she sees precisely where to fill in with color.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, we&#8217;re killing two birds with one stone, so to speak. She gets an easier canvas to work from and the white background is stitched first so that there won&#8217;t be any colored fibers\u00a0 that can end up getting caught in the white yarn when it&#8217;s pulled through. Some experts recommend stitching the lighter colored areas first.
